Sabine, Sir Edward
(14. oct. 1788, Dublin, Irlanda–26 jun, 1883, East Sheen, Surrey, Inglaterra).

Astrónomo y geodesta británico. Participó en las expediciones de John Ross (1818) y William Parry (1819) en búsqueda del paso del Noroeste. En 1821 comenzó a realizar experimentos para determinar con mayor precisión la forma de la Tierra mediante la observación del movimiento de un péndulo. De ahí en adelante dedicó la mayoría de sus esfuerzos a investigaciones sobre el magnetismo terrestre, supervisando el establecimiento de observatorios magnéticos por todo el mundo. En 1852 descubrió que la variación periódica de las manchas solares está correlacionada con ciertos cambios en las perturbaciones magnéticas. Fue presidente de la Royal Society de Londres (1861–71), ordenado caballero en 1869 y promovido al rango de general en 1870.
